Areas of Expertise

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - this structured therapy focuses on taking a problem and having goals to achieve. This helps us to identify and change our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes that are related to the problem you are trying to overcome. Mary will invite you to learn strategies, skills working collaboratively with you.

Solution Focused Therapy

Solution Focused Therapy - this is a future focused, goal directed therapy that focuses on solutions, rather than on the problems that brought you to seek therapy. By exploring past positive life experiences or past experiences where you have overcome a challenge or problem she will invite you to remain positive, ultimately eliciting positive, hope filled thoughts and direction in your life. Motivating you and helping you achieve behavioral change in their lives.

Psychoeducational Therapy

Psychoeducational Therapy involves the process of providing education and information to you and your family members so they can better understand the challenges you are facing. This allows for personal understanding, additional knowledge of the situation so you can feel a greater sense of control then build on your resources, strengths and have greater capacity to improved well being and quality of life.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy - this involves opportunity for Mary to gain insights into your child’s experiences and challenges they are facing. Observing and gaining insights into their problem(s) can be an invitation for Mary to explore emotions and help the child to work through trauma. Children can learn new coping strategies and change negative or harmful behaviors. The benefits are vast i.e. taking responsibility for behavior, developing coping strategies, expressing self appropriately, expressing feelings/emotions fully thus building stronger family relationships.

My Approach

As a therapist with a social work background I look at the whole individual with all the systems in their lives. The entire well-being of that person is explored and connections are made if necessary as to whether or not those areas are influencing the present request for therapy.

All of us have strengths and resiliency that has brought us to where we are today. Mary supports the strengths that the individual, couple or family already have and builds on those strengths that are unique to them.

Trauma informed therapy identifies that we as individuals, couples, families or groups come from a place where we may have experienced trauma which could be physical or emotional.

Therapy is provided in an environment of safety whether that is in her office, another location, by zoom/video of choice or over the phone and that empowerment and clear and gentle communication is of outmost importance.

Trauma has effected so many of us and may have a role in the individual/couple/family’s life thus Mary has an awareness of this during the therapy she provides.

She works with individuals and family members who are on the spectrum or are neurodivergant.
